Wait, Why Did I Leave?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Okay so it turns out this was harder than I thought it would be.\u00a0 I wanted to start &#8220;blogging&#8221; and I figured it would be easy enough.\u00a0 I could think of countless times I had some interesting narrative in my mind regarding math or teaching or math teaching.\u00a0 I had always wanted to start putting those narratives somewhere.\u00a0 The blog made sense.\u00a0 Plus all the cool kids were doing it.\u00a0 So it was settled.\u00a0 I sat down with a group of teachers who I liked a lot, Carl offered to set up Coast2Coast and it was on.\u00a0 And then I had to start&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Yeah.\u00a0 Well&#8230;\u00a0 In 2014 I had like 5 posts.\u00a0 I mean maybe 7, I don&#8217;t know, but it wasn&#8217;t impressive.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not thrilled with it.\u00a0 As the New Year begins, I&#8217;m re-motivated to write, but I&#8217;ve spent some time recently trying to figure out what made it so tough last year.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I can come up with:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0 I&#8217;m lazy.\u00a0 Well I&#8217;m a lot less lazy than I used to be, which I feel great about, but I can still burn an hour doing not much at all and wonder where it went.\u00a0 I assume\/hope most people have that talent.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0 It takes time.\u00a0 Like right now, I&#8217;m looking up at the clock in the corner of my screen thinking about how I need to make some dinner soon and how I might not have time to finish this blog about not having time to finish blogs.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 No one is reading my posts.\u00a0 Well Carl has probably read a few, or maybe all of them.\u00a0 Carl is pretty good at that.\u00a0 Thanks Carl!<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know what to write about.\u00a0 See I think this is the big one.\u00a0 The narratives I think of are often publishable, but many of them aren&#8217;t.\u00a0 Maybe they are too specific, too student oriented, too math oriented, or too difficult to describe without pages and pages of back-story.\u00a0 I find myself thinking, &#8220;Well I could blog about <em>this<\/em> but no one knows about <em>that<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 Which is silly because no one is reading anyway, but <em>still<\/em>.\u00a0 Which brings me to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know who\/what I&#8217;m writing for.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know my audience.\u00a0 Well I do, it&#8217;s Carl.\u00a0 But I mean I don&#8217;t know who I even want as my audience.\u00a0 Am I writing this for me?\u00a0 Is that what these posts are about until people start reading?\u00a0 Are they for personal growth only until I become a &#8220;cool kid&#8221; someday and actually have more than 5 twitter followers?\u00a0 Or should I write them as if I am cool and people actually are reading and might comment and might care?\u00a0 See, I don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>I do know this:\u00a0 I&#8217;m getting hungry.<\/p>\n<p>I also know that I like doing this.\u00a0 Writing.\u00a0 Writing about what I&#8217;m thinking.\u00a0 I even like writing about thinking about what I&#8217;m writing about.\u00a0 (That actually makes sense right?\u00a0 Write?)\u00a0 So I&#8217;m going to keep at it.\u00a0 Hopefully a lot more often this year.\u00a0 And hopefully as the posts keep coming I&#8217;ll start to figure it out and actually start making this blogging thing useful&#8230;\u00a0 Wish me luck!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Okay so it turns out this was harder than I thought it would be.\u00a0 I wanted to start &#8220;blogging&#8221;
